Who is Alok Anyway?
Born Alok Achkar Peres Petrillo on August 26, 1991, in Goiânia, Brazil, Alok has become a global sensation in the electronic dance music scene. His 2016 hit “Hear Me Now,” a collaboration with Bruno Martini and Zeeba, catapulted him to international fame, amassing over 355 million views on YouTube and more than 381 million streams on Spotify. Since 2021, Alok has consistently ranked as the 4th best DJ in the world by DJ Mag, making him the highest-ranked Brazilian DJ in history.
Alok’s musical journey is deeply rooted in his family’s legacy. His parents, Ekanta and Swarup, are pioneers of psytrance in Brazil and founders of the Universo Paralello festival. Alongside his twin brother Bhaskar, Alok began his career with the project Lógica, performing psytrance across 19 countries before transitioning to a solo career in house music at the age of 19. He is credited with popularizing the “Brazilian bass” subgenre and has collaborated with artists like Armin van Buuren, Kylie Minogue, and David Guetta. His recent track “Euphoria,” featuring Armin van Buuren, Norma Jean Martine, and LAWRENT, was a highlight at Tomorrowland Brasil 2024.
Beyond his musical achievements, Alok is a dedicated philanthropist. In 2020, he established the Alok Institute, investing R$27 million to support vulnerable communities through entrepreneurship, social impact initiatives, and food security programs. His commitment to social causes is also reflected in his 2024 album “The Future is Ancestral,” which fuses electronic music with indigenous Brazilian sounds.
